New Storstrøm Bridge

Denmark's third largest bridge at around 4 kilometres across, the new bridge will have both regional and international importance. It will contribute to the rail corridor between Copenhagen and Germany.
The new Storstrøm Bridge will replace the existing, outdated bridge which was completed in 1937. An analysis by Banedanmark finds the original bridge could not support the increased traffic once the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link between Denmark and Germany opens in 2029.
Denmark’s third largest bridge
The new Storstrøm Bridge will be Denmark's third largest bridge, after the Øresund Bridge and the Great Belt Bridge. At around 4 kilometres across, the new bridge will have both regional and international importance. It will contribute to the rail corridor between Copenhagen and Germany, which will be strengthened by the completion of the Copenhagen-Ringsted railway via Køge and the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link.
The new Storstrøm Bridge will be one of the few bridges in the world to feature a two-track high-speed railway, a dual carriageway, and a combined cycle and pedestrian path, all on one cross section.

Applying previous bridge building experience
Ramboll has a long history of designing bridges. For this project, we are responsible for the structural and geotechnical design of most of the substructure, superstructure, and cable-stayed bridge. We will also assist with detailed project designs, as well as the approval processes for the cable-stayed bridge and the land facilities.

Collaborating for connective infrastructure
The main construction contractor for the new bridge is Storstrøm Bridge Joint Venture (SBJV). The Danish Road Traffic Authority is the owner of the bridge, which expects it to be ready for car traffic in 2024 and rail traffic in 2026.
